Upstate SC clay doesn't drain the way contractors from out of the area expect it to, and a crew that doesn't account for that in the base prep is going to cost you twice. Before you hire anyone, ask specifically how they handle the gravel base depth and compaction on clay soil. If they can't answer that without hesitating, keep looking.
